We get the
chance to work with so many amazing vendors for parties that we thought we'd do
a monthly featured vendor post so you can get to know them too! These are REAL
people, following their passions and sharing their talents to make your party a
success! Be sure to leave a comment to say Hi!
This month's featured vendor is Katie from Katie's Creative Baking. Her cookies are INCREDIBLE. I can't imagine the time it takes to create these beautiful designs.
Check out the Milk & Cookies themed cookies she made for us!
1. Company Name
Katie's
(when I started setting up the business in 2011 I spent a lot of time trying to
think up a witty name but I ran out of time and ended up just using my name)
2. What do you do? Tell us about your business!
The first
goal is to make delicious desserts. The second goal is to make them
beautiful. I've started with decorated butter cookies but am slowly
expanding into wedding and celebration cakes as well as more 'basic' items;
delicious drop cookies, pies and tarts.
3. Tell us a little about you and how you got started!
I
officially started the business in April 2011 and started my Etsy shop in
October 2011. Since the beginning of 2013 I've been working hard on
starting my own website. www.katiescreativebaking.com it's still
under construction.
After
graduating from college with a degree in interior design I spent a few years in
the industry but wasn't really happy. In 2008 I went to The French
Culinary Institute and received their certificate in Classic Pastry arts.
As a bit of a nerd I really latched on to all of the science of baking,
it's like working with a delicious chemistry set :) It's a great bonus
that I can use all of my art and design background, too. I started
working in a great little bakery in Montclair, NJ where I learned everything I
know about decorating cookies from the owner. When the economy went south
the bakery closed and I had to find something else. I jumped around, A
LOT and couldn't find anywhere that i felt comfortable working or anyone I felt
good working for. That's when i decided to just to it for myself.

4. What is your favorite part of your job?
It may
seem cliched but I enjoy making people happy. The things i make are
generally for special occasions and so I try to make the desserts special too.
I like hearing that people have enjoyed themselves and were pleased with
the product.
5. What is your best party tip?
After all
the planing is done, just enjoy yourself and enjoy being with your guests.
6. What is your favorite party theme right now?
There are so many great party ideas right now. For
kids, I really like all the carnival themes because there is so much you can do
with all the decorations and colors and of course all the activities. For
weddings, I've seen some really beautiful and creative rustic themes.
Mother's Day anyone?
